Best Shaving Creams For Sensitive Skin – 2012

Guest Post by Avi Garret:

Whether it is ingrown hairs, razor burn, or razor bumps, there is no shortage of shaving related troubles. This is especially true for those who suffer from sensitive skin or allergies. Luckily, a quality shaving cream can diminish these symptoms and transform your shaving routine into something you look forward to, rather than dread.

Below is a list of the best shaving creams for sensitive skin, based on customers reviews, expert opinions, and my own personal experiences.

1. Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin

Price : $18 (5.3 oz)

Uniquely formulated with sensitive skin in mind, the TOBS Jermyn Street is hypoallergenic, free of parabenes (synthetic chemicals), and contains soothing ingredients such as Aloe and Allantoin. It’s the go-to choice for those who want to enjoy a nice fragrance without damaging the skin.

The latherability and lubrication of this shaving cream is remarkable. You will find that a pea-sized portion enables four to five passes, while consistently helping your razor glide smoothly across the face. While it is quite pricey, the Jermyn Street Shaving Cream arrives in a rather large 5.3 oz jar which lasts up to half a year.

2. Kiss My Face Fragrance Free Moist Shave

Price : $6 (11 oz)

As opposed to other brands that claim to provide an unscented shaving cream, KMF actually delivers. You will not find even a hint of fragrance here. This is THE choice for those who suffer from both sensitive skin and allergies. I particularly loved the use of Aloe Vera and Olive Oil, as it soothes the skin, as well as Goldenseal, which protects the skin from nicks and cuts.

The price is the most surprising, considering the quality and superiority of the product, at only $6 for an 11 oz bottle, you are definitely getting a bang for your buck.

3. Nancy Boy Signature Scent Shaving Cream

Price: $18 (6 oz)

The Nancy Boy Signature Scent Shaving Cream has one of the most unique, yet natural scents around due to a mixture of Rosemary, Peppermint and Lavender. Most impressive is the density of the lather, which provides one of the most protective and cushioning shaves I’ve ever come across.

Like many brilliant moisturizers, Nancy Boy incorporates cucumbers as part of their ingredients. This works so well that it eliminates the use of an after shave for so many of its users.

4. La Toja Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream

Price : $8 (5 oz)

Truefit and Hill shaving brushThis Spanish shaving cream is extremely skin friendly, and carries a nice  herbal scent, subtle enough to not damage the skin whatsoever. Its moisturizing capabilities are both unusual and effective, using hydrothermal spa minerals, and additional vitamins to improve the condition of your skin well after the shave.

A 5 oz tube costs around $8, but for those who either live or visit Spain, it is $4. An incredible bargain either way.

5. Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Shaving Cream

Price : $30 (6.7 oz)

T&H Ultimate Comfort Shaving Cream definitely lives up to its name as it provides an extremely comfortable and hypoallergenic shave. The ingredients are pure, and you can literally feel that you’re using a premium shaving cream. Its latherability is also quite fascinating, as you’ll find that tiny amounts of shaving cream explode into a full lather.

While it does come with the biggest shaving cream jar, it also comes with the biggest price ($30). I would endorse the price if the product was superior to the previously mentioned items in the list, but it is not.

This is a great list! I have been searching for better alternatives to Proraso and Trumper’s, as they contain parabens and other obnoxious ingredients.

Of this list I might object to including La Toja, as it contains detergents/foaming agents like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). A report published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology showed that even low concentrations of SLS could cause skin irritation. SLS is also easily absorbed into the body, and may be linked to reduced male fertility.

There are much safer alternatives out there. Instead of La Toja, you should add creams from Gentlemens Refinery, Pacific Shaving Co., Taconic, and Anthony Logistics to your list.
