Best Home Remedies for Razor Burn

Man checking his face for razor burn in the mirrorGuest Post by Avi Garret:

I don’t know about you guys, but I consider a mean case of razor burn to be THE most annoying shaving related skin problem around. Sadly, it is also the most common. Additionally, the products that claim to soothe and rid us of razor burn seem to do a much better job at ridding us of the contents of our wallets.

Luckily, there is a cheaper, healthier, and more effective solution. Below is a list of some of the best home remedies for razor burn. While there are literally hundreds of remedies claiming to treat razor burn, I thought it would be much more effective to stick with those that have proven to work and are present in most households.

Important: Avoid applying anything to which you might be allergic to.

Aspirin

While it may come as a surprise to you, due to having astringent qualities (a medical compound often used for skin treatment), aspirin makes for one of the best home remedies for razor burn treatment. In fact, the majority of expensive skin solutions for razor burn and razor bumps out there are glorified aspirins!

Making an Aspirin Paste:

  1. Crush 2-4 tablets of aspirin (depending on the size of the burn) into a small bowl.
  2. Dampen the crushed tablets by adding a small amount of warm water until you get a spreadable and consistent paste.
  3. Using circular motions, apply the paste to the affected area and leave it on for about 15 minutes.
  4. Once again, using circular motions and warm water, rinse the aspirin mask off and enjoy the results.

Tip: Using uncoated aspirin is a quicker process, as they melt faster.

Strawberries & Sour Cream

While it may sound like a tasty dessert (it is), a facial mask made from strawberries and sour cream is an incredibly effective remedy for razor burn.

  1. Begin by mashing 2-3 strawberries, then add about a teaspoon of sour cream to the mixture until you get a consistent paste.
  2. Apply the mixture onto the burn, and wait for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off.

Apple Cider Vinegar

A double whammy in the home remedy department, apple cider vinegar will not only soothe the irritated skin, but also kill bacteria.

  1. Soak a cotton ball into a cup filled with apple cider vinegar.
  2. Apply it to the area required (no need to rinse it off, as it gets absorbed by the skin).

Witch Hazel Oil

Witch Hazel is one of the most useful herbal healing plants out there, and a perfect choice for reducing the effects of razor burn. It is best applied immediately after the shave for prevention, but also works great later on for treatment.

  1. Absorb a decent amount of Witch Hazel Oil using a cotton ball.
  2. Apply it to the affected area (once again it is absorbed by the skin, so no rinsing off is needed).
